Credit for Participating Teachers: A UAMS/UALR Partnership In an attempt to get more science content
into the teacher-in-training (pre-service) curriculum, the College of Education (COE),
University of Arkansas at Little Rock, and the PIHS program entered into the following
partnership: Pre-service teachers receive undergraduate or graduate credit toward their
education degree requirements by attending 5 days of mini-courses of their choice in a
PIHS summer program. A faculty member in the UALR/COE (Cheryl Grable, Ed.D.) monitors this
program and sets academic requirements which involve the writing of lesson plans,
evaluation of the various teaching methods used or not used by the UAMS-PIHS
faculty, etc. This program began in the summer of 2000. Since then 22 master's level and 14 bachelor's
level students in science education in the UALR/COE have earned college credit for
attending PIHS mini courses.
